Privacy & Your Data

We believe your family stories are deeply personal. Here's how we take care of them.

Your stories are yours

We don't sell, share, or use your stories for anything other than preserving them for your family. They belong to you.

What we collect

Your name and email (to create your account), voice recordings and their transcripts, and a session cookie to keep you logged in. That's it.

How AI helps

Voice recordings are sent to OpenAI for transcription and gentle editing (cleaning up filler words, adding punctuation). OpenAI does not use your data to train its models. Recordings are processed and not stored by OpenAI beyond what's needed for the transcription.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored securely: account information in a database, audio recordings in cloud storage (Google Cloud). All connections are encrypted.

Who can access your stories

Only three groups: (1) You, the account holder, have full access. (2) Storytellers can see the specific question they received and their recordings. (3) Anyone you share your Story Archive link and PIN with can listen and read transcripts. No one else can see your stories.

Emails

We use a service called Resend to send you emails (like login links and story notifications). Your email address is shared with Resend for this purpose only.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account at any time from the Account tab. This removes your account, all prompts, recordings, and transcripts permanently.

Infrastructure access

As with any hosted service, the people who maintain the system have technical access to the infrastructure. We treat your data with care and respect, and access it only if needed to keep the service running.
